Basics of Environmental and Resource Economics

Current Informationen

  • Due to the corona pandemic, the course will be offered in e-learning format for the summer semester 2021.  
  • Teaching videos and other documents will be made available in the ISIS portal at regular intervals
  • Question times are offered, which are carried out as video conferences
  • During, the summer semester 2021 the course is graded based on a portfolio exam, which contains of various exam elements.

  • The course is only designed for Bachelor's degree courses. Hence, this module is also not available for master students.

Dates of course (Q&A-session)

To support learning and to provide relevant information, the lecturers of the course offer question and answer sessions (Q&A sessions) at a weekly rhythm via virtual meeting (zoom).

The question times take place on Tuesday, 14:15 - 15:00 (CET) (start: 13.04.2021).

Organisational Issues

  • The course is concepted as bachelor course
  • The value of the course is 6 ECTS / 4 SWS.
  • The course is given in every sommer semester during the lecture period

  • Written exam at the end of the course (due to Covid-19, in summer semester a portfolio exam is take place)

  • Welfare theoretic basics: Social welfare function, Pareto principle
  • External effects and market failure
  • Classic concepts of internalisation: Pigou tax and Coase theorem
  • Pricing and standards approach: Tax, Certificate market
  • EU-CTS (European Certificate Trading Scheme)
  • Paradoxes and negative side-effect: Rebound effect, Coal paradox
  • International economic policy: Trading, Global external effects
